Tideflat Sunrise (Willapa)
A fall sunrise, reflected in the shallow waters of an incoming tide.
Willapa Bay has a large tidal exchange; when the tide is low, vast expanses of mudflats are exposed as the water moves out to sea. As a child these mudflats provided great entertainment and opportunity for exploration - the remaining puddles with their small flounders and sticklebacks, the strange sea plants dropped wherever the tide left them, hermit crabs exchanging shells.
When I look out over all that mud, it never seems anything but beautiful to me.
